Gen 2:18 "Then Yahweh God said, "it is not good that the man is alone. I will make for him a helper ⌊as his counterpart]"
Equal rights for women is found right here in Genesis. The phrase rendered " as his counterpart" is literally " as his opposite" in the Hebrew. They were created as equals.
Inequality, and the battle of the sexes can be traced to the curse pronounced later in Gen 3:16 "To the woman he said, "I will greatly increase ⌊your pain in childbearing⌋; in pain you shall bear children. And to your husband shall be your desire. And he shall rule over you."
All through the OT we find women given equal treatment and status as Judges, Prophetesses, and persons of Faith. In the NT Paul writes "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus"-Gal 3:28
There is therefore no grounds for banning women from any church office - except for this one injunction - They are not to teach men or exercise authority over men."12 And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. 15 Nevertheless she will be saved in childbearing if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control." 1 Tim 2:12-15
Paul appeals to Genesis, with the knowledge, that while we are one in Christ, as a practical matter, the curse is still in operation ( Christian women still experience labor pains) , it is wise for women and men to submit to each other in Love in their personal relationships, and exercise authority in their respective spheres in the church.
