The spirit dimension surely seems to be getting a lot of attention in today's world. Ghost hunting seems to be the new "safari" and ghosts are the lions - not to mention bagging something on video is very lucrative - just look at all the shows on TV!
In all seriousness, some shows do show the grim reality of the war being waged against man and God from the beginning of this world by outside influences. We see real instances of families oppressed and terrorized by ghosts & evil spirits, and read/see about far too many sightings of UFO's and other strange phenomena to discount them as hallucinations. There is definitely something "out there"... (but it's not the truth !) How should a Christian process this?
Remember - Jesus cast evil spirits out of people - proving once and for all - their very real existence. He did not permit them to speak other than by permission. God strictly forbids all attempts to make contact with the spirit dimension and mandates the death penalty for such activity, and those who indulge in it.(Ex. 22:18; Lev. 20:27)
Why?
Because they lie.
To the evil spirits' crimes of false prophecies , fake but soothing divinations (mentioned many times in the OT), given to so-called mediums , let us add impersonating humans ( as ghosts ) , and making lights/objects in the sky ( UFOs).
The objective? To convince mankind that a reality alternative to that described in the Bible exists. To turn people away from the truth to believing all kinds of other theories.
Think about it.
To those who would argue that I am trying to get the Bible to line up with facts that point otherwise, I would say that the Bible clearly talks about the reality of other dimensions/planes of existence. It differentiates between illness and spiritual possession or oppression. It describes the agenda of these entities and their end. Real life, including scientific experiments & experiences, corresponds with these phenomena to a T - including the presence of benevolent entities or angels.
These so called powerful beings stay away from cameras , do not reveal themselves , and if they do, invariably create more confusion. No ghost or alien has been interviewed on tv yet! There are evidently some very clear boundaries that they cannot cross , but it is humans, who by attempting to transcend their physical limitations, open themselves up and give themselves over to these influences. The Bible explains these limitations as being those set by God Himself, for example, limiting the damage Satan is allowed to inflict on Job.
So as a Christian - you should definitely believe in the paranormal, but you must be wise to stay away from it. Nothing good will come of it , rather, there is potential for much evil. Prayer (and faith in its efficacy) is your recommended (and suggested only) weapon if you should encounter the agents of the enemy. It is enough.
