"The Father who dwells in Me does the works." - John 14:10
The hardest thing for a Christian is to wait for God to act, and not rush to do things in his/her own wisdom and flesh. We need for Him to work through us, and not for us to do what our heart desires.

Our self is motivated by the noble task of being of service to Him who saved us, but these motives may often be mixed with the leaven of pride, the desire to be praised of men, or to better our own self-image. This kind of work will be consumed like hay and stubble, and we will get no credit for them at all! Just think of Saul who through impatience took it upon himself to sacrifice instead of waiting for Samuel. It cost him his kingdom.

The right way is to obey His commandments, learn to discern His voice and leading, and yield ourselves to Him anew each day, so that we may be used by Him - maybe not for grand and big things - but for a kind and comforting word to one in pain, a cup of cold water to the thirsty, a presence at a sickbed, a cloak for the naked, food to the hungry. He should work through us, and we should give all glory to Him! This is what will gain us true appreciation.

If our Lord is to be our human model , consider the verse above, and you will realize how profoundly misguided we can be. He said in so many places, that it was His Fathers will that He did, His Fathers words that He gave out, His Fathers works that He did, and He looked to constantly do the things that pleased Him. In return, the Father testified to all, that here was a Son with whom He was well pleased!!!

Christ gave Him all the glory and so should we... So wait on Him.. not passively, but actively listening, praying that He would show you what He would have you do, dwelling and working in you to remember, and empowering you to do what He has already said, willed and commanded - Love your neighbor as yourself!

It's not glamorous, and will get you no recognition - except from the only One who truly matters!! Don't waste your time serving in the flesh of your self and your wisdom, but rest in the easy yoke of Christ and everything will flow naturally and easily in God's good time!!
