Our aim is to glorify God alone, rule our lives by scripture alone, to trust in the finished work of Christ and Gods grace alone, through faith alone.
Sola Gratia, Sola Scriptura, Solus Christus, Sola Fide, Soli Deo Gloria.
The Tabernacle does not seek to discourage believers from participating in, or supporting his/her local church. Rather, it is a framework and a set of resources to encourage like-minded believers who seek a deeper walk in the Lord to seek out each other, and begin to build each other up, by meeting in each others Homes, and dedicating their lives to active discipleship.
Structure and Governance
- Each local Tabernacle is an Elder-led Home Church body, supported by deacons
- Elders are required to protect the church as Shepherds (Acts 20:28), hold fast to correct doctrine (Tit 1:9-), preach, teach and direct the affairs of the church body
- Elders are believers who fulfill the requirements as laid down in the Pauline epistles of Titus and Timothy. They are appointed by the local body where they serve.
- Elders are to exhibhit servant behavior - as our Lord who came not to be served, but to serve. Those who would be first must be servants of all.
- Elders are subject to public church discipline as a warning to others
- We do not believe in Titles (Pastor, Leader, Teacher, Master, Director etc.) each local Tabernacle is comprised of Living Stones that play various roles according to gifts they have been given (pastor, teacher, evangelist etc.)
- Each local Tabernacle has complete autonomy. All Tabernacles are united only by their adherence to the ideas and principles laid down here.
- Each Tabernacle is a believers only body. Membership is by invitation only , and is extended by the local body to believers that have repented, been baptized, and have demonstrated the indwelling of the Holy Spirit to the satisfaction of the local body.
- Each local Tabernacle is required to expositionally preach the Holy Scripture, book by book, verse by verse. This may be accomplished with a combination of assembled worship, and in-home Bible studies. The goal is to declare to the body the whole counsel of God
- Each member-believer is required to host (in rotation) a Bible study at his/her home. Schedule and rotations to be decided by the local body
- Each local Tabernacle is required to observe the sacraments of the Lords Supper, and perform Baptisms for all believers
- Each local Tabernacle is required to be financially self supporting through the voluntary donations of members. No donations or offerings are to be ever solicited in any public assembly that is designated for worship. Worship should be the primary and only goal of public assembly
- We affirm that Tithing and Circumcision according to the Law is the unique responsibility of the nation of Israel. Gentile believers are not required to tithe, be circumcised or observe the Jewish Law based on the apostolic authority of the first Jerusalem council. We are enjoined to love, and giving of our time, talent, and money (where possible) is to be done voluntarily as an act of love and not of coercion
- Giving is to be anonymous. We encourage members not to take tax deductions of their giving so as to make their gift to God free of any encumbrance or other motives.
- Each Tabernacle is required to publish all income and expenses on a monthly basis to all members of its body
On Gifts and Believers
- All Believers are created equal in the image of God and are to reflect that equality in their relationship with each other.
- Believers are distinguished by their bearing the fruits of the Spirit (Gal 5:22,23). If these are not demonstrated they should earnestly make their calling and election sure!
- A Believer is called to obedience and holiness. This walk is not a pre-requisite for salvation, or post salvation earning of merit. It is a grateful acknowledgement of the saving work of Christ, and the desire to walk in the will of God.
- The gifts of the Spirit ( 1 Cor 12 and others ) are sovereignly distributed by the Lord to believers for the edification and the equipping of the body.
- Since these gifts are distributed by the Lord, we do not recognize any difference between clergy and laity, but believe in the universal priesthood of all believers serving as they are called and enabled, under the authority of their local leadership, and the approval of the local church body.
- The gifts of the Spirit are given to point to the glory of the One that gave them and not the one who exercises them.
- The gifts are given to be exercised decently, in an orderly fashion, under the full control of the anointed one.
- We affirm that the Lord authenticates the witness of his resurrection with signs and wonders where required. We do not seek these signs or wonders as an end to themselves, but receive them gratefully inasmuch as they authenticate and confirm the gospel, and its ministers. We recognize these gifts as the earnest of our inheritance received for the edification of Christ's body and for the furtherance of the gospel.
On Spiritual Life
- Prayer is to be private, short and devoid of vain repetition. Our Father knows what we need before we ask Him! Each believer should be encouraged to develop this vital skill for themselves. Public prayer to invoke our Lords blessings upon the assembly or some special purpose, task or petition is certainly encouraged.
- Prayer ministries should be composed of believers who have the gifts of intercession. The body should perform the task of collection of petitions and forward them to the ministry to be prayed for as appropriate. The Prayer ministry should be focused on teaching prayer, and identifying believers that have the intercessory gift.
- Tongues are a gift of the Spirit. Public utterances in tongues are acceptable only where there are one or more persons that can interpret. If there are none, the person should pray privately in tongues. Persisting in public speaking in tongues without interpretation is grounds for termination of membership from the Tabernacle.
- Healing is a gift of the Spirit. We recognize that the Lord has granted us doctors and medicine that use resources He has provided to minister to humanity and we gratefully acknowledge and recommend their use. While they may minister to us, we recognize that healing is from the Lord, and encourage our body to anoint those who are sick with oil, and have the elders pray over them. We encourage those that have been anointed with the gifts of healing to use their healing as they are led of the Spirit.
- We are engaged in a spiritual warfare and recognize that members/believers/the general public may be suffering and oppressed by the actions of evil spirits. We suggest that each Tabernacle earnestly desire and develop the gifts of deliverance as they are led to minister to those that are oppressed in this fashion. We take our authority from our Lord, but enjoin caution in this area - only those that have the gift and are anointed in this field should undertake this mission with much prayer and fasting, supported by the prayers of the body for their continued health and spiritual well being
- Each Believer is enjoined to a walk of obedience and holiness characterized by the fruits of the Spirit. The Tabernacle is not legalistic, but rather enjoins each member to not grieve the Spirit by whom they were sealed for the day of redemption.
- Believers are encouraged to a daily devotional life of prayer and reflection on the Word. Each Tabernacle should facilitate this process with online or offline tools and public worship on the Lords Day.
- Each Tabernacle is encouraged to preach the Bible, pray the Bible, sing the Bible, and teach the Bible in public assembly
